“On a light background, gold does not weigh down but shines — just as the joy of the Resurrection shines.”

This iconostasis for the church in the village of Sivka-Voynylivska is a creative work by the Pivtorak & Company workshop: the composition was developed individually, not from a ready-made sample. The frame and delicate carving are made of alder, the gilding is done with mirror gold leaf, and the background between the gilded elements is light. This makes the iconostasis look light and festive, and the icons are particularly clear.

About the Product

The silhouette of the iconostasis is constructed as an image of the temple: the end sections rise higher than the middle part and are topped with carved finials with crosses, while a figurative pediment rises above the center.

The Royal Gates are made with delicate carving. Six round medallions with icons are placed on the two leaves, three on each.

The Deesis Row on either side of the gates consists of icons of the Mother of God with the Child and Christ with the Gospel. The outer arched sections with lush delicate framing contain images of saints.

The Festive Row stretches above the Deesis, and in its center, directly above the Royal Gates, is the composition “The Last Supper.”

The Base Panels are decorated with carved rosettes, and the columns are covered with a deep floral ornament with gilding.

The cost is calculated by area: from 29,250 UAH per 1 m², the final amount depends on the size and complexity of the composition. The production time is 2 months, depending on complexity.

Where It Fits and Where It Doesn't

✓ Suitable
  • Churches with light walls, where a dark iconostasis would look heavy
  • Communities that want an individual project, not a standard solution
  • Altar walls of medium height with two rows of icons
  • Interiors where it is necessary to maintain a sense of space and light
✗ Not the Best Choice
  • Churches with dark interiors, where a light background would be out of style
  • Parishes that prefer natural wood without painting
  • Rooms with heavy soot from candles without regular maintenance
  • Orders with a deadline shorter than 2 months

Advantages of the Material

  • Alder holds fine lace well, so the finials of the end sections and the leaves of the gates come out thin and precise.
  • The smooth surface of the wood allows for a light background coating to be applied without stains and fiber transparency.
  • Mirror gold leaf on a light background creates a soft warm shine rather than a sharp contrast.
  • The lightness of alder is important for the high end sections, which should not overload the base.

Creative Approach of the Workshop

Each iconostasis by Pivtorak & Company is based on a specific temple, but this project the workshop calls a creative work: the silhouette with raised end sections, light background, and placement of “The Last Supper” are designed specifically for this interior. Thus, traditional Ukrainian carving and gilding acquire a new, bright sound.

Care

  • Dust from the gilding should be swept away with a soft dry brush.
  • Wipe the light areas of the background only with a dry soft cloth, without water or cleaning agents.
  • Place candle holders so that soot does not get on the light surfaces.
  • Maintain a stable temperature and humidity in the church.
  • For refreshing the light coating or gilding, contact the workshop.
