“The height of the iconostasis leads the gaze upwards — from the holy images to the cross at the very top”
For the church in the town of Klesiv, the workshop Pivtorak & Company created an iconostasis that spans the entire width of the altar wall. The central part rises above the side wings and holds the composition like a vertical axis. The alder, covered with gilding and mirror gold leaf, shines brightly against the backdrop of the light walls and white columns of the church.
🏛️ Layered central part Crowning with a cross | ✨ Gilding Mirror gold leaf on alder | 🌿 Side wings Two rows and carved finials |
About the product
The central part is the highest in the entire structure. Above the Royal Doors, the icons are arranged in several tiers, and at the top, the composition is crowned with a carved finial with a cross.
The Royal Doors are carved and adorned with medallions featuring the Annunciation and the four evangelists.
The side wings extend on either side of the center and have two rows: the festive and the ordinary. Each section of the wings is topped with a separate carved finial with a small cross, and the sections are separated by gilded columns. This gives the long altar wall a clear rhythm.
The base panels are decorated with volumetric carvings and visually support the entire structure on a solid foundation.
The cost is calculated by area: from 29,250 UAH per 1 m², the final amount depends on the sizes and number of sections. The production time is 2 months, depending on complexity.

Advantages of the material
- Homogeneous alder wood is well-suited for carving, so even small curls of the finials come out clear.
- Lightness and stability of alder are important for the high central part and long side wings.
- Gilding lays down in a thin layer and accurately reproduces every relief of the carving.
- Mirror gold leaf reflects natural and artificial light, making the iconostasis well-readable from any point in the church.
Traditions of church carving
Pivtorak & Company works within the framework of the Ukrainian school of church carving, where the iconostasis is perceived not as a partition, but as an image of the Heavenly Jerusalem. Layered construction, rhythm of columns and finials, the glow of gilding — these means the workshop combines so that each community receives an iconostasis proportional to its church.
Care
- Dust from gilded surfaces should be swept away with a soft dry brush made of natural bristles.
- Do not use water, alcohol, or polish on the gilding.
- Ensure that candles and lamps are kept at a safe distance from the carving.
- Heat the church evenly, without sharp temperature fluctuations.
- Do not touch up damaged gilding yourself — contact the workshop.
