Zgardas are among the oldest Hutsul chest ornaments. In terms of composition, it is a complex system that combines one or several rhythmic-plastic rows of various solar signs, strung on "chains," straps, etc., placed at a distance from each other by "links" and connected by "cheprags." The compositional center often features a larger equilateral cross that unites all the others, sometimes smaller crosses.
