Zgardas are among the oldest Hutsul chest ornaments. In terms of composition, it is a complex system that combines one or several rhythmic-plastic rows of various solar symbols, strung on "chains," straps, etc., placed at a distance from each other with "bridges" and connected by "chopragas." The compositional center often features a larger equilateral cross that unites all others, sometimes smaller crosses.
