“The twisted columns rise like a prayer that does not stop day or night”
This iconostasis was made by Pivtorak & Company for a temple in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi. It is made of dark-toned alder without gilding, and its expressiveness lies in the deep volumetric carving. The twisted columns with carved leaves, lace-like grilles, and arched finishes of the sections create a warm yet solemn accent against the backdrop of the temple's blue paintings.
🌀 Twisted Columns With Carved Leaves | 🔲 Lace Grilles In Panels and Frames | ✝️ High Central Arch Crowned with a Cross |
About the Product
The Royal Gates feature two large oval medallions depicting the Annunciation — the archangel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary — and below are four round medallions with the evangelists. The leaves are separated by a twisted column topped with a carved state and cross.
The Icon Row consists of icons of the Virgin Mary with Child and Christ with the Gospel, the image of Saint Archdeacon Stephen, icons of saints, and the temple icon of the Baptism of the Lord. Each image stands in an arched niche with carved framing.
The Twisted Columns between the sections are covered with relief leaves that spiral upwards, and their bases and capitals are made of separate carved blocks.
The Lace Grilles fill the base panels and the space around the icons, making the iconostasis look lighter and airier despite the massive carving.
The Finishing forms a high arch above the Royal Gates with a cross on top, while the side sections are crowned with carved crests.
The cost is calculated by area: from 29,250 UAH per 1 m², the final amount depends on the size and complexity of the composition. The production time is 2 months, depending on complexity.

Advantages of the Material
- Alder is well-suited for volumetric carving, so the spirals of the twisted columns and the leaves on them come out clear and deep.
- Uniform structure of the wood allows for cutting thin lace grilles without splits.
- Dark staining lays evenly on alder and emphasizes the play of light and shadow in the relief.
- Lightweight makes it easier to install sections and keeps the gates easy to use daily.
Traditions of Temple Carving
Twisted columns, gridded panels, and arched finishes are ancient motifs of Ukrainian church carving. Pivtorak & Company has combined them in a compact single-row iconostasis, where the carving does not compete with the icons but frames them, leading the gaze to the Royal Gates and the cross above them.
Care
- Remove dust from the twisted columns and grilles with a soft brush with long bristles.
- Wipe smooth surfaces with a dry cotton cloth.
- Do not use water, alcohol, or silicone polishes.
- Maintain a consistent temperature and humidity in the temple.
- Trust the renewal of the protective coating to professionals.
