“The Word of God placed on the lectern becomes closer to everyone who prays”

The lectern is a high table with a slanted top surface, on which the Gospel, cross, or icon is placed in the temple, as well as liturgical books for reading. This lectern is handmade from alder and decorated with gold leaf and mirror gold. The light carving, twisted columns, and openwork panels give the product a solemnity, while its compact dimensions allow it to be placed in a temple of any size.

Product Description

The body of the lectern is framed by four twisted columns entwined with clusters and leaves of grapes, with carved capitals. Between the columns are openwork panels with a floral ornament: on the frontal panel, an oval cartouche is highlighted in the center of the composition. The upper cornice is decorated with a frieze of grapevines, and the slanted surface is intended for the Gospel, icon, or book. The product stands on a light profiled base, which emphasizes the lightness and bright palette of the decoration.

The gold leaf is made of mirror gold leaf, giving the product a soft, even glow. The lectern pairs well with tetrapods and other vessels in light tones and can complement the temple's ensemble.

Material Advantages

  • Precision of fine carving. The uniform wood of alder allows for precise carving of clusters, leaves, and delicate twists of openwork even on a small product.
  • Lightweight. Alder is lighter than oak, making the lectern easy to carry and move during services and cleaning.
  • Reliable base for gold leaf. The smooth, dense surface of alder holds the primer and gold leaf well, ensuring an even and neat finish.
  • Shape stability. Properly dried alder is less prone to cracking, which is important for a product with many carved details.

Workshop Traditions

The lectern is made by the masters of the creative workshop of sacred products PIVTORAK & COMPANY in the city of Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk region. Kosiv region is famous for its carvers who have worked for the churches of Hutsul region and all of Ukraine for generations. The workshop continues this tradition: the form, proportions, and ornament of each product are designed according to its liturgical purpose, and the carving is done by hand. The grapevine on the lectern reminds of Christ's words about Himself as the true Vine.

Care

  • Place the lectern away from radiators, heaters, and direct sunlight
  • Maintain stable humidity in the room without sharp temperature fluctuations
  • Clean surfaces with gold leaf only with a dry soft cloth or soft brush, without water and cleaning agents
  • Remove dust from openwork panels and twisted columns with a soft brush
  • Ensure that candle wax does not get on the decoration; carefully remove hardened wax without metal tools
  • Do not use abrasives, solvents, and aggressive household chemicals
