“Gold that covers every line is like the light of Transfiguration that leaves no shadow.”
This iconostasis was made by the workshop Pivtorak & Company for a wooden church in the city of Odessa. The entire structure made of alder is covered with gilding using mirror gold leaf: columns, cornices, ornate gates, and icon frames. Against the backdrop of the light wooden walls of the church, the entirely gilded iconostasis is perceived as a source of light, and the semicircular arch with medallion icons rises above it like a heavenly vault.

About the Product
The Semicircular Arch encompasses the entire iconostasis. Icons are placed in round medallions along its arc, and at the top, there is a medallion with the image of Christ in a lavishly carved finial.
The Royal Gates are made with through gilded carving, featuring six round medallions with icons, three on each leaf. The gates stand on a low elevation.
The Main Row consists of icons of the Mother of God with the Child on a throne and Christ on a throne with the Gospel, with images of archangels on the sides. Each icon stands in an arched niche between gilded carved columns.
The Base Panels under the icons of the main row contain narrative icons in gilded frames, so the images unfold from the base to the very top of the arch.
The Cornice above the main row is crowned with carved crests and finials.
The cost is calculated by area: from 29,250 UAH per 1 m², the final amount depends on the size and complexity of the composition. The production time is 2 months, depending on complexity.

Advantages of the Material
- Alder has a smooth fine-pored base, allowing the gold leaf to lay thinly and evenly.
- Homogeneous wood allows for intricate carving of gates and crests without chipping.
- The lightness of alder is important for the high arch that holds the row of medallions and the finial.
- Mirror gold leaf reflects the light of the chandelier and candles, making the iconostasis shine even in the evening twilight.
Traditions of Gilded Iconostasis
The entirely gilded iconostasis is the most solemn form of altar partition in the Ukrainian tradition: gold symbolizes the uncreated light of the Kingdom of Heaven. Pivtorak & Company combined this technique with a semicircular arch of medallions, which completes the composition and allows for more images to be placed without adding new rows.
Care
- Dust the gilding with a soft dry brush, without pressing.
- Do not touch gilded surfaces with bare hands.
- Avoid water, alcohol, and cleaning agents.
- Hold candlesticks so that soot does not settle on the carving.
- Leave gilding restoration to professionals.
