The Hutsul carpet “Constellation of Chornohora” — an author’s woven product from the Hutsul Carpet Workshop in Kosiv. The composition is built on the alternation of vertical stripes with five rows of white eight-pointed star-diamonds with ochre centers — like the night sky over the highland meadows. The warm burgundy-ochre palette with splashes of spruce green and milk makes the product universal for classic, ethnic, and modern interiors.

Ornament and Symbolism
The eight-pointed diamonds are an ancient solar symbol of Hutsul region, representing the sun, family, and a protective talisman for the home. In this carpet, they rhythmically repeat in groups of five within each of the wide burgundy fields, like a constellation over Chornohora — the highest mountain range of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Between them stretch narrow stripes of ochre, milk, dark green, and sandy — an allusion to the mountain ridges and the shadows between them.
Material and Weaving
The carpet is woven from natural sheep wool on a classic horizontal loom by artisans from Kosiv. The wool undergoes manual preparation — washing, spinning, dyeing — and retains its natural properties: warmth, softness, anti-static, and stain resistance. The fringes at the edges are formed by hand from the foundation strips after the fabric is removed from the loom — this is an authentic feature of Hutsul weaving that cannot be reproduced in industrial conditions.
