Ornament and Symbolism
The heart of the composition is a light central path with three large diamond-shaped roses in a sage-green frame with a peach heart. In Hutsul tradition, the rose is an ancient solar symbol, representing family prosperity, fertility, and protection of the home. Three diamonds in a row read as a family formula: kin — home — abundance.
On either side of the central strip, the master wove vertical ribbons with meanders and “stair-step” motifs — symbols of infinity, the life path, and the connection of generations. This structure is characteristic of the Kosiv school: the ornament is clearly divided into registers, each stripe has its own rhythm, and the background does not “clamor” with unnecessary details.
Palette — like mist over the Chornohora
Unlike classic bright Hutsul carpets, “Carpathian Morning” is woven in a muted, almost watercolor range. Sage-gray and gray-blue remind of the mist over the meadows, peach and terracotta — the first rays of sun through the fir trees, olive and cream — the grass and sheep's wool from which the carpet is born. This palette fits perfectly into calm interiors in a soft classic style — and does not “overpower” the rest of the decor.
