“The meadow shines in its own way every time — sometimes with sunshine, sometimes with fog, sometimes with the first snow on the peaks.” This is how they describe the changing light of high mountain pastures in Kosiv region — hence the name of this rug.

The Hutsul hand-woven rug “Polonynske Syayvo” is a product of the Hutsul Carpet Workshop, woven using traditional home weaving technology. The pattern of the rug resonates with the colors of the natural landscapes of the Carpathians — warm shades of grass and earth that change depending on the season and lighting in the highlands.

Where the name comes from — about the light of the meadow

The meadow is a high mountain pasture that changes in lighting throughout the day: in the morning it is covered with dew and fog, at noon it is bathed in sunlight, and in the evening — in warm sunset hues. This variability of light gave the rug its name, the pattern of which captures the characteristic play of shades of the natural landscape of the Carpathians.

Ornament — traditional geometry

The pattern of the rug is built on classic Hutsul geometric elements that traditionally symbolize:

• path and movement — a linear composition along the entire rug;
• home protection — repeated diamond and zigzag motifs;
• connection with nature — a color palette inspired by the landscape of the meadows;
• continuity of tradition — a weaving technique passed down from generation to generation.

How does a hand-woven rug differ from machine-made products?
Hand-woven textiles are made manually on a simple loom, so the density and pattern have a natural imperfection — a sign of true handmade work.

Does the rug slip on smooth floors?
On tiles or laminate, we recommend using an anti-slip underlay — standard practice for woven rugs without a rubber backing.

Do the colored threads bleed during washing?
The workshop uses stable dyes with fixation before weaving. With proper care, the color lasts for years.

What price difference does a larger size make?
150×65 cm costs 600 UAH more than the base size, and 200×65 cm costs 900 UAH more, as more yarn and weaving time are needed for larger sizes.

Can the rug be washed in a washing machine?
We do not recommend it — wool may deform. The optimal method is hand washing in cool water or dry cleaning.

Care

Vacuum on medium power without a brush attachment for daily care. Once a season — air it out in fresh air (not in direct sunlight). If stained — dry clean or hand wash in cool water (up to 30°C) with a gentle wool detergent. Do not wring — let the water drain naturally. Dry horizontally, in a laid-out position, away from heating batteries.
