Making Hutsul postoly requires considerable experience and great effort.

Postoly are made from calfskin, which requires quite a lengthy processing. It is enough to say that the leather for postoly is soaked for a year in a solution of salty water with the addition of spruce bark, and every two weeks the solution needs to be changed.

For soaking, wooden, and recently also plastic barrels are used.

Only after the leather is ready does the production of postoly begin.
