View Collection

Cheres is a traditional Hutsul leather belt that plays a special role in the national costume of the Carpathian highlanders. It is a living artifact that has inherited the knowledge of the craftsmen of Kosiv and becomes more beautiful with age. Each belt in our workshop is a unique handmade product.

Production

From raw material to finished cheres: three steps of the master

Cattle leather is the foundation of every handmade Hutsul belt. It is dense, elastic, breathable, and "remembers" its owner. Over the years, it acquires a noble patina that transforms a new cheres into a true antique with character.

Selection of leather

We discard material with uneven thickness, scars, or marks. Only dense, well-cured leather is laid on the table.

Cutting and edge finishing

The belt is even along its entire length without any deviation. The edges are sanded by hand and polished with a wax solution to a matte shine.

Stamping and finishing

The ornament is applied by hand with a stamp and hammer. One strike — one imprint. There is no room for error.

Carpathian symbolism

Stamping is a language that our ancestors read

Each symbol on the Hutsul cheres carries meaning, verified over hundreds of years. The master does not just apply a pattern — he builds a text where each figure is in its place.

Infinity

An endless line with no beginning and no end. A symbol of eternity and unity with the world of nature.

Rose

An eight-petaled flower — an ancient talisman against the evil eye and a harbinger of good.

Hornless

A geometric figure in the shape of an angle. A sign of strength, resilience, and masculine endurance.

Tree of Life

Connection of generations and unity of kin. Roots — in the ground, crown — in the sky.

When you hold a Hutsul cheres in your hands, you hold several hours of work from a specific person who knows their craft and takes pride in it.

Fittings

Metal that won't betray in twenty years

Buckles, rings, and rivets — only made from brass or stainless steel. No zinc alloy. Brass buckles acquire a warm golden hue over the years, which perfectly matches the darkened leather.

Rivets are hammered in by hand, each checked for strength. The buckle is sewn with a double linen stitch — the same stitch used to make boots a hundred years ago. Such a seam will not come apart even under significant load. That is why our cheres serves not only as an element of Hutsul attire but also as reliable support for the lower back during physical work.

Care

Three rules for the belt to serve for decades

Natural cattle leather loves attention but is not demanding. Follow these simple rules:

Once a season

Apply a thin layer of colorless cream or wax paste. The leather is nourished and does not dry out.

Got wet — no worries

Let it dry naturally, away from batteries and sunlight. Do not speed up with a hairdryer.

Storage

No polyethylene. The leather must breathe — hang it or place it in a fabric bag.

Over time, the color will deepen, and the surface will acquire a characteristic shine — this is patina. Not wear, but age. This is how things look that live together with a person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about ordering and manufacturing

How to order a cheres in my size?
For custom production, the exact waist circumference at the level of the navel is needed. The master adds 10 cm to this measurement so that the belt can be adjusted in both directions. Indicate the size when placing the order or contact us directly.
What is the production time?
The standard time is from 7 to 10 working days. For complex orders with non-standard ornaments or combined fittings — up to 14 days. We deliver Hutsul cheres across Ukraine via Nova Poshta and Ukrposhta: Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, and other cities.
What is the width of the standard cheres?
The back and front parts are each 15 cm. This is the classic Hutsul proportion that provides support for the lower back. If a different width is needed — we discuss it individually.
Do you ship abroad?
Yes, we ship. Delivery and payment conditions are discussed individually — contact us via the form or by phone +38 067 801 80 40.
Can I order a cheres as a gift?
A Hutsul cheres is one of the most durable and significant gifts. A unique souvenir from the Carpathians that will highlight style and character. We pack the products in branded packaging. If desired, we will add a card with your text.
