“Steel holds sharpness, ash holds the strength of the hand, and brass weaving holds the memory of Hutsul masters”
This small axe combines blacksmithing, carved notches, and fine metal weaving. The forged head with a blade made of tool steel, an ash handle under wax, and a pattern of brass and stainless steel wire is an item to keep in a collection, to gift for a special occasion, or to wear with a traditional outfit. A natural leather case with hand embossing is included.

About the Product
The head of the axe is forged from iron, and the cutting part is made from high-hardness tool steel, which means the edge retains sharpness longer. The side surfaces of the blade are covered with engraved geometric ornamentation, and the top of the head is twisted and adorned with decorative nails.
The ash handle has a distinct natural texture. Its upper part is wrapped in a tight weave: brass strips form a diamond pattern over the intertwining of stainless wire. Iron clamps at the beginning and end of the weave are decorated with notches. The wood and metal are coated with a wax compound, which protects the product from moisture and corrosion for a certain period.
Included is an author's case made of natural leather with hand embossing, which covers the blade during storage and transport.

Advantages of the Material
- Tool steel in the blade has increased hardness and retains sharpness longer than regular iron.
- Forged iron in the head is tough and elastic, allowing it to withstand loads without brittleness.
- Ash is one of the strongest woods for handles: elastic, impact-resistant, with a beautiful natural texture.
- Brass does not rust, acquires a warm deep shade over time, and contrasts with the silvery wire.
- Stainless wire maintains the shape of the weave and does not darken from moisture on hands.
- Natural leather of the case is dense, holds the embossed pattern well, and protects the blade.
Traditions of Hutsul Blacksmithing
The axe in the Carpathians was not only a tool but also a sign of an adult master: it was taken on journeys, to weddings, and to celebrations. The metal decoration, notches, and nails indicated the owner's status and the master's skill. The workshop of Hutsul axes and kelevs continues this tradition: each product is forged, engraved, and woven by hand, preserving the shape and ornamentation of old samples.
Care
- Store the axe in a dry place, away from heating appliances.
- Periodically treat the wood and metal with a protective oil-wax compound.
- After contact with moisture, wipe the product dry and only then place the blade in the case.
- Do not wash the axe under water and do not use abrasive agents on the weaving.
- Occasionally treat the leather case with a natural leather conditioner.
