Oleg Garkus
Born on June 21, 1973. Graduated from Kosiv Secondary School No. 1, in 1988 entered the Kosiv College of Folk Arts in the Department of Artistic Metal.
After graduating from the college, he entered the Kosiv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts in the Department of Artistic Metal and received a bachelor's degree with honors from the state commission.
In 2005, he entered the Lviv National Academy of Arts. After graduating from the academy, he obtained a master's degree with honors in the specialty "Fine and Decorative Arts" and acquired the qualification of a metal artist, researcher, and lecturer. He wrote a master's thesis titled "Chest Decorations of Hutsul Region in the Mid-19th to Early 20th Century in the Aspect of Preserving Folk Jewelry Art."
From 2010 to 2014, he studied in the postgraduate program at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, after which he prepared a dissertation titled "The Development and Establishment of the Artistic School of Metalworking in Hutsul Region during the 20th to Early 21st Century in the Aspect of Preserving Folk Art Traditions."
Since 2000, he has been working at the Kosiv Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts as a lecturer in special disciplines "Composition," "Work in Material," "Technology." Appointed head of the Department of Artistic Metal in 2004, where he continues to work, teaching the subjects "Composition," "Work in Material," "Computer Modeling."
During his time at the institute, he has prepared 135 diploma works for defense, of which 74 graduates defended their diploma works with honors from the state commission. He has published a number of articles in various scientific publications in Ukraine concerning artistic education in Ukraine and, in particular, trends in the development of jewelry making.
He has received several awards and honors at the regional and national levels, diplomas for international cooperation in student and faculty exchange. Two awards from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for many years of conscientious work, significant personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists, and fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity, diplomas from the Lviv National Academy for training specialists of higher qualification and personal contribution to the development of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, and an award from the Department of Culture of Nationalities and Religions for the development of culture in Prykarpattia and the artistic school in Kosiv.
Awarded the "Honorary Diploma of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine" by the decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine for significant contributions to the development of artistic education in Ukraine.
A constant participant in artistic events related to the educational process, participant in various exhibitions, has produced about five hundred author’s jewelry pieces that promote the folk art of Hutsul Region and are held in private collections, museums in Ukraine and abroad.
