Gutsul axe is a traditional weapon used by the Hutsuls, an ethnic group mainly living in the Carpathian Mountains in western Ukraine. This axe has a distinctive design and was used as a means of self-defense, as well as having symbolic significance for Hutsul culture.
Hutsul axes have a sharpened blade, a very large and heavy head, and a long handle, which allowed them to be used as a weapon in hand-to-hand combat or for chopping wood. Their design can vary, and they are often decorated with scratched ornaments or intricate carvings.
In addition to their functionality, Hutsul axes also had cultural significance. They were part of the national costume of the Hutsuls, used during various rituals and celebrations, and symbolized the strength and resilience of the Hutsul people.
Today, Hutsul axes can be popular souvenirs and items of folk art, and can be found at fairs or in shops selling national products.
